Saturday Morning’s Main Camp Game Update ….
Team Black was the winner Saturday morning as the Brandon Wheat Kings’ Main Camp continued at Westman Communications Group Place.
The line of veteran Chad Robinson and 17-year old rookies Brett Kitt and Jordan Bochinskicombined for thirteen points as the Blacks outscored Team White 8-5 to cap off the 2-day round robin. With the win, Team Black ended the 3-game weekend with a record of 1-1, finishing in a tie with both Team White and Team Gold.
A member of the Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings last season, Kitt continued his torrid pace by leading the winners with three goals and six points. Bochinski added three goals and an assist and Robinson chipped in with three helpers.
The game was tied at three when goals by Kitt and veteran Jayce Hawryluk a minute apart snapped the tie and the Blacks never looked back.
Latvian left-winger Rihard Bukharts rounded out the scoring for the winners while Jesse Gabrielle andRyley Lindgren scored two goals each in a losing cause for the Whites.
Duncan Campbell also scored for the Whites, who were outshot 40-36 in the wide open affair.
Veteran Curtis Honey and 15-year old prospect Josh Dechaine combined to stop 33 of 40 shots for the Whites while 16-year old rookies Logan Thompson and Evan Robert teamed up to make 31 saves in the win.
Newly acquired blueliner Taylor Green was a member of the winning team on Saturday and the 6’7″ 220 lb defenceman says he’s happy to be in Brandon.
“I think when you’re in an organization for a while, you get trapped into a role,” Green told CKLQ’s Bruce Luebke. “Seattle was great, I have nothing bad to say about them, but it’s a new opportunity here. We’re going to have a lot of guys leaving next year so there’ll be a bigger role next year, and this year too. Hopefully, I can kind of start fresh and carve out a new role for myself.”
The 18-year old Green was obtained from Seattle earlier this month in exchange for a fifth round bantam draft choice.
Green expects to be back on the ice at 6pm tonight for one final scrimmage game.
Main Camp will come to a close Sunday afternoon at 2pm when the hockey club will host its Annual Intra-squad Game, presented by Canad Inns Destination Centre.
