It was end to end action during the first as both teams had decent scoring opportunities only to be held at bay by the goaltenders.  Brooks opened the scoring for the Blues with his 11th of the year 4:11 in.  That was matched by Steinbach five minutes later to leave it tied at one after 20 minutes of play.

Early in the second, Tait’s sixth of the year gave the Winnipeg Blues a 2-1 lead.  The remainder of the period was scoreless despite both teams having a couple of power play chances each.  The period ended with a bang as a boarding call to the Pistons with 0:13 left resulted in a congregation of players and a fight, Tait up against the Pistons Bochinski with Tait coming out on top.

In the third, the Pistons had two power play chances with no result. Following a Steinbach goal 6:28 in to tie it up, Brooks scored his second of the night two and a half minutes later that would give the Blues a 3-2 lead that they would not give up.  The Pistons pulled their goaltender with a minute and a half remaining but the Blues and Spriggs held them off for a well earned 3-2 win.
