Offensive Buzzwords

Evgeny Svechnikov is a highly skilled winger that can snipe as well as dish the puck.  He has a better than average skill-set that combines a very good shot, very good puck handling and passing skills along with exceptional offensive instincts.  Svechnikov possesses a very hard and accurate shot with a pro-release.  He still needs to learn to use his size a little more but all in all a very dynamic offensive player.

Skating

Evgeny Svechnikov is a smooth skater with good speed and agility.

Defensive Buzzwords

At times, Evgeny Svechnikov’s defensive game is not always where it should be. He is not a bad defensive player but he can still be a little inconsistent.  His defensive game is still a work in progress.

Prospect Analysis

Evgeny Svechnikov projects as a top six forward that can play on the powerplay and excel in offensive situations.  Based strictly on his offensive talent, he would be a “Top 10” pick in this years draft but he will probably fall to the “middle third” of the first round because he is perceived to be one-dimensional at this stage of his young hockey career.  Keep in mind, he was a rookie in North America this season and he was playing in the offensively minded QMJHL , so we don’t quite know yet if he’s capable of playing a better defensive game.  You can teach defence BUT you can’t teach his kind of offence!  A little improvement in Svechnikov’s compete level and defensive game could result in some team getting an absolute steal in this years draft.

Keep an eye on him as well Winnipeg Jets fans!  He will be one of the bargains in this years draft.

Projected:  #15 – #20
