Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Jan. 26

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

Some things that crossed my mind this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.

1. The Winnipeg Jets went 1-0-0 this week winning their only game before the All-Star break … Two points … Thoughts?

2.  It was interesting to see some of the guys on the HNIC/TSN/SportsNet hockey panels making a case for Michael Hutchinson to replace the injured Sergei Bobrovsky in the All-Star game.

3.  It looks like the future holds more World Cups and less Olympic participation for NHL players.

4.  IMHO, the term “All-Star” gets thrown around way too loosely!

5.  The Los Angeles Kings lead the NHL with 12 overtime or shootout losses.

6.  Andrew Ladd is quietly having a pretty good year and is leading the Jets in scoring with 40 points in 48 games.

7.  Any guesses on how many games Philadelphia’s Zac Renaldo gets suspended for his mindless hit on the Penguins Kris Letang?

8.  The World Cup of Hockey in 2016 is going to have a couple of interesting teams in it including an All-Star team made up of top 23-and-under North American players and another featuring the top NHL players from the European countries that aren’t represented by their national teams, including Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia, Austria, Norway, Denmark and Latvia.

Andrew Ladd is leading the Winnipeg Jets in scoring at the All-Star break!

9.  Winnipeg Jets goaltender Michael Hutchinson is starting to get some national attention as a Calder Cup candidate for “Rookie of the year” and could garner quite a few votes.  (see #2)

10.  Who is really to blame for getting the Heritage Classic postponed in Winnipeg next season?

11.  Note to NHL All-Star Game Skills Competition Committee: The breakaway event with the fan vote was a huge fail.

12.  How does Justin Faulk rate an All-Star game invite over P.K. Subban?

3 … 2 … 1 … go!

13.  I can’t help thinking that somehow Gary Bettman stuck it to us again!  (see #10)

14.  I think most hockey fans would rather just watch the NHL All-Star Skills Competition and do away with the actual game.

15.  Does playing in the “NHL All-Star Game” make you an “All-Star”?  (see #4)

If you have any thoughts on any of these comments or questions, please let me know.  I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.

Concerning Zac Rinaldo: Adam Proteau of the Hockey News wrote a scathing blog account on Rinaldo’s 8 game suspension. In his opinion Zac is going to seriously injure someone in the future.

Do you remember Rinaldo turtling when challenged by Peluso last year …. he’s a gutless rat!

No I don’t remember that Mitch. He sounds like a real piece of work! The Jets appear to be in a little bit of a slump lately, not taking anything away from Pittsburgh and Philly, but our defensive coverage looks scary! Hopefully they can get back to play the way they were before all the injured players came back.
