Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: July 28

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

Instead of being serious all the time and writing a commentary or an opinion piece we will jot down some random musings once a week.  It might be a mix of serious, playful or maybe even a little sarcastic but it should be fun.  If you have answers please let us know.

1.  Going into year 4 are the Jets closer to the playoffs or closer to drafting Connor McDavid?

2.  Will Jets forward Michael Frolik and the team agree on a contract before his arbitration hearing this Thursday?

3.  Their are 29 other teams in the NHL that “draft and develop” and some actually do it pretty well.

4.  On a scale of 1 to 10 what are Nikolaj Ehlers chances of being in the line-up on Oct.17, 2014?

5.  Would you agree with me that Michael Frolik will sign for around $3 – $3.5 million over 3  – 4 years?  (see question #2)

6.  Would you be in favor of Winnipeg getting a WHL team?

7.  Do you remember hockey in the Gretzky era when only a handful of goaltenders had a SV% over .900?

8.  When is the next #JetsFanParty?

9.  What do you think Ondrej Pavelec’s SV% would be if he played in the Gretzky era?  (see question #7)

10.  If Winnipeg acquired a WHL team would you go to games?  And how many?  (see question #6)

Now some of these questions are serious, some are just tongue in cheek and some are me just being a _________. (you fill in the blank)

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.  I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.

Thanks, Mitch

  1. I WANT a WHL Team and HELL YES I would go!!!!

That’s all I have for you tonight. Going to bed. G’Night!

  2. Winnipeg to small to have the Jets and a WHL team. Jets need all the revenue they can get out of our blue collar town. I would like to see it but it wouldn’t work.

I don’t know Dale, times have changed. I think the WHL would be a home-run in Winnipeg now and especially if TNSE were the owners.

  3. IDK Mitch, if it was a success it would hurt NHLJETS I think. If it was a great idea trust me TN would have had a whl team here a while ago. Possible when they moose were here even. They do there homework and surveys and I don’t think it will happen for years. IMHO

  4. Brady Strachan says

    2) and 5) YES and YES…..it better be.
    4) 65 percent chance. But 0 percent by Nov 17th
    6) I think Winnipeg could definitely support a WHL team. Not sure if True North would be so supportive. But then again it works in Edm and Calgary. I really got into the WHL living in Brandon and now Kelowna. The hockey is always exciting, games are usually high scoring. Fans enjoy watching the young stars and see them develop into NHL stars. Tickets would be reasonable for families on a budget. The problem is Winnipeg is so far east. That bus ride to Portland would be a bitch.

agreed Brady, but travel in the Dub is a lot different than the old days. Back in the days of the Winnipeg Clubs/Monarchs/Warriors they traveled a lot more. Now most games are within division/conf with only one big road swing. AND with the interest in the WJHC along with the NHL draft the WHL has major appeal.
