The Jets stood pat and did nothing at the NHL Trade Deadline — but is that really a bad thing?

On the weekend, I wrote an article where I said I suspected the Jets might be buyers at the deadline and listed five players I thought they should go after.  Two of those five players ended up being moved, but neither of them to Winnipeg.  In fact, the Jets didn’t make a single move.  But was it really wise to do NOTHING when you’re a hockey club on the cusp of making the playoffs?  Perhaps some added players can push you into the playoffs?  Once you’re at the dance, can’t anything happen? Winnipeg Jets Shore Up Forward Depth With Cody Eakin

Winnipeg-born centre Cody Eakin acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick —

GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and the Winnipeg Jets made their second trade of the week on Friday when they acquired Cody Eakin from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a 2021 conditional fourth-round pick.  The fourth-round pick will become a third-round pick in 2021 if the Jets make the playoffs this year or re-sign Cody Eakin to a new contract.  Eakin is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 as his four-year deal worth 3.85 million annually comes to an end. *Author’s note: While I was writing this piece, the Jets acquired centre Cody Eakin from the Vegas Golden Knights for a conditional fourth-round pick.  This may make some of the centres I suggest below seem a bit redundant, but with the injuries to Bryan Little and Adam Lowry, further bolstering the centre position isn’t necessarily a bad thing and I still believe some of the suggested names make sense.
