Brandon Wheat Kings Weekly: Nov. 17

Brandon Wheat Kings this week –

The Brandon Wheat Kings split a weekend home stand and enter the week with a record of 17-4-1 and sitting atop the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference.

Saturday’s win over the second place Medicine Hat Tigers ended a 4-game home stand for the Wheat Kings, who went 3-1-0 over the last two weekends of action at Westman Communications Group Place.

THIS PAST WEEKEND:

Friday, November 14th vs. Seattle
The visiting TBirds scored three third period goals to beat the Wheat Kings 6-4 before close to 4,300 fans at Westman Place.  After trailing 2-1 after one period, the Wheat Kings had battled back to even the score at three through forty minutes of play

Saturday, November 15th vs. Medicine Hat
In what was billed as a battle between the top two teams in the WHL’s Eastern Conference, the Wheat Kings came from behind to beat the Tigers 3-2 in an Overtime Shootout that went eight rounds. 17-year old Braylon Shmyr ended the game by becoming the one and only shooter to score.  Both goalkeepers – Jordan Papirny and Marek Langhamer – were sensational in this game. Papirny finished the night with 50 saves – 42 during the game and was a perfect 8 for 8 in the Shootout.

While nineteen jerseys were available for bids on Saturday, two others – John Quenneville and Quintin Lisoway – had theirs auctioned off on radio earlier this month.  Another one meanwhile will be won this week following a month-long raffle.  For more information on how to purchase a $5 ticket for a chance to win Logan Thompson’s game jersey fans can call (204) 571-8929.
