BRANDON BITS:

Brandon’s captain helped the WHL All Stars double up on Russia 4-2 last week and capture the 2013 SUBWAY Super Series.  The New York Islanders’ first round draft choice scored his 50th career WHL goal this past week, becoming the first Brandon blueliner to score 50 goals in his career since Justin Kurtz in 1996-97 … While the Wheat Kings don’t have anyone in the Top 25 in scoring this season, Brandon is fourth in goals with 104 in 29 games.  Only Portland, Medicine Hat and Spokane have more this year … Defenceman Ryan Pilon made his Brandon debut in Saturday’s OT loss to Prince Albert … The Wheat Kings, in association with Atom-Jet Group recognized Ben Laursen at Saturday’s game.  A Virden native, Laursen has been volunteering with the Wheat kings since 1965 when the club was in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.  In addition to serving as the club’s Supervisor of Off-Ice officials, Ben was the hockey chairman at the 1979 Canada Winter Games, held in the Wheat City … Just a reminder that the annual Shoppers Mall Teddy Bear Toss is coming on Friday, December 13th vs. Kelowna.  All donations of new, unwrapped stuffed animals tossed on the ice will be donated to the local Christmas Cheer Registry.
