Members of the Wheat Kings will get a chance to experience a day of soldiering on Monday when they travel east to Canadian Forces Base Shilo for what has become an annual event. This marks the fourth year that the Wheat Kings have been invited to the Base and hosted by the Second Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian light Infantry.
The first one was held in 2010 and served as a way for the Base to repay the Wheat Kings’ organization for hospitality that they showed the 2PPCLI in the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
The bond between the Wheat Kings and CFB Shilo has been strong for some time. In addition to what has become a popular event for the players, the hockey club in partnership with MTS Connect and its three Brandon stores, sends family members from the Base to 2013-14 regular season home games at Westman Communications Group Place under the popular “Hometown Hero” program.
On Thursday, the hockey club in conjunction with Manitoba Public Insurance, The Brandon Sun and the Brandon Police Service will host its first School Patrol Luncheon of the 2013-14 WHL season. Honorary School Patrol Captain Ryan Pulock will be delivering a Subway lunch to the 20 patrols at Linden Lanes School.
