OCN StormKJHL Update:  DEc. 3,2018

The top two teams in the Keystone Junior Hockey League met up over the weekend with the home team OCN Storm (10-1-0-0) sweeping Cross Lake Islanders (6-3-0-0) solidifying their spot atop the standings.

It was the visitors who struck first in the opening game in what was an evenly played game for most of the first 40 minutes of action. Bryson Werbicki-Mallet scored at 12:56 of the second to give OCN a 2-1 lead, but Cross Lake evened things just :16 later.

The Storm wouldn’t be denied this night though retaking the lead :59 later on a Troy Head tally.  Four goals later had the Storm winning 7-2.  Shots were close with OCN holding a slight 30-28 advantage.  Keian Weseen picked up his second victory of the season with 26 saves.

Game two of the weekend was not as competitive with OCN scoring the opening pair of goals before a powerplay goal by Dennis Scratch got the Islanders on the scoreboard. Werbicki-Mallet found the back of the net for the first of three tallies at 2:44 to make it 3-1 Storm.

The hosts were unkind in the second frame adding four goals, two scored by Blaine Dorian, to give OCN a 7-1 lead at second intermission.  There were a pair of fights in the period as well leaving both benches two players short.

Head added a second to begin the final period before Scratch notched his second at 14:56 to make it 8-2.  Ethan Constant contributed two of his three assists in the third helping the Storm cruise to a 12-4 victory.  Braxton Constant improved his record to 6-1-0 stopping 15 of 16 shots in the first half of the game.  Weseen played the final 30 minutes of the game in relief.
