OCN Storm Sweep Peguis In KJHL Action

KJHL Update:

Just three weeks into the Keystone Junior Hockey League season OCN Storm are proving to be the team to beat.  After a weekend sweep of the three-time defending league champion Peguis Juniors, the Storm are undefeated at 7-0-0-0 with confidence flying high.

Storm bench boss Marcel Fontaine likes his group saying, “we’ve been successful as a result of this being a tight-knit group. Everyone brings a positive attitude to the rink, sticking to the game plan and hard work has been key to winning.”

In the series opener, the host Storm would fall behind 2-0 in the second before Troy Head got OCN on the scoreboard late in the period.  CJ Thompson and Bryson Werbicki-Mallet tallies would put the Storm in front 3-2 before Sundance Paul tied it with 6:14 to play in regulation.

The game would go to overtime before Head found the game-winner at 2:23 of the extra frame beating goaltender Dray Flett who faced 56 shots.  Braxton Constant earned the victory in net making 30 saves.

OCN came out the following day ready to play scoring three times in the opening frame.

Juniors battled back and cut the lead to 3-2 early in the second before tallies by Wesley Beardy and Thompson made it 5-2 at second intermission.

Brayden Murdock got Peguis back into it just 1:34 into the third followed by a pair of powerplay goals – first from Paul then Ethan Daniels tied it 5-5.  OCN would not be denied this day though with continued pressure on the visitors.  It was the final minute of regulation when Troy Head scored the game-winner as the Storm totaled 61 shots on net.

Fontaine praised the goaltending of Flett saying, “Peguis had really great goaltending which kept them in the games.”

OCN Storm will hit the road to face the Cross Lake Islanders on Saturday. Peguis is also on the road facing Norway House North Stars. See the complete KJHL schedule here.
