Skating
The first thing you notice about Wennberg is his skating. His skating is definitely his biggest asset and he may be the fastest prospect in the 2013 draft.
He has elite level speed and acceleration with a powerful skating stride. His agility and his strong skating make him a difficult player to defend one on one.
Offence
Alexander Wennberg like most center-men is more of a play-maker than a goal scorer. He has good hands and can score in tight around the net but his shot is not very hard. Alexander Wennberg’s shot is fairly accurate with an average release. Wennberg is a play-maker with good vision and he is also an excellent passer. He has very good hockey sense and he has a high compete level. Wennberg is not afraid to go into the tough areas on the ice to make a play. He lacks the strength right now be effective along the boards and in battles in front of the net. At 174 lbs. adding muscle and upper-body strength will be a must.
Defence
Alexander Wennberg has a well developed defensive game. He back-checks hard, understands his role and defensive responsibilities. One of the areas where most scouts would agree Wennberg could improve is his overall physical game. At 6’2 he is not a small player and he doesn’t play a very physical game for a player his size. This part of his game should come as he bulks up and adds strength.
Projection
Most projections have Wennberg being a solid a top 6 center/forward with a good two-way game that can play on the PP and PK. I see Wennberg being drafted in the 15-20 range.
