The Plymouth Whalers Ryan Hartman

Hartman isn’t a big winger but he plays a big-mans game.  Hartman is a tough 5’11 and plays a very physical game as his 120 PIM’s would suggest.  He is a power forward in a 5’11 package.

Gritty, physical, agitator are all words used to describe Hartman.

Ryan Hartman excels in the grinding areas along the boards and in front of the net.  He has decent hands and is versatile being able to play both at center or on the wing.

Offensive Buzzwords

Ryan Hartman is a play-maker, an excellent passer, he has good vision, very good hockey sense and makes smart plays.   His wrist shot is extremely hard with an excellent release.

Hartman is a very good skater, with good top end speed, he has a quick first step with good acceleration and he has excellent lateral agility.  Ryan Hartman has good balance and is difficult to knock off the puck.

Defensive Buzzwords

Defensively his game is well advanced, he doesn’t sit back but challenges his opponents in the defensive zone.  He blocks shots and is very solid on the PK using his pressure game.

Ryan Hartman will need to bulk up a bit if he wants to play his style at the NHL level.  He could become an good second/third line C/RW  capable of playing shut-down minutes against top opposition and be good on the PK.  Ryan Hartman will probably be drafted late in the 1st round or early in the second round in the 26-36 range.
