Offensive Buzzwords

Seth Jones has a very good low point shot and a top end one-timer.  He also has a good wrist-shot with a quick release.  Jones makes a good first pass and will also lead the breakout on his own.  Seth Jones will definitely be capable of  quarterbacking an NHL powerplay.  His puck-handling, poise, patience are already at an advanced level.

Skating

Seth Jones is a very good skater.  He has great mobility, lateral movement and is solid moving  forwards and backwards.  Jones has good top end speed and acceleration.  It is very rare to see a 6’4 eighteen year old at this level in skating ability.

Defensive Buzzwords

Seth Jones has very good defensive fundamentals mostly because of his skating ability.  His mobility and long reach make him hard to beat one-on-one.  When killing penalties he uses that long reach and has an active stick to block the passing and shooting lanes.  He uses his body effectively and competes hard to win puck battles but is not a big open-ice hitter.  Seth Jones is a hard worker and is very competitive at both ends of the ice.

Most scouts project that Seth Jones will be an elite NHL defencemen capable of playing big minutes at the NHL level.  He will be a top pairing defenceman that will run a teams PP and be an effective penalty killer.  The only negative thing that can be said about Jones is that he doesn’t appear to have much of a mean streak.  He is the best defenceman and probably the top player in this draft class. Look for Seth Jones to be the #1 overall pick.
