Winnipeg Hockey Talk’s evaluations of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft top prospects continue today with our featured prospect Jake Virtanen.

Achievements:  Virtanen was the first player selected in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.  He was also a member of Team Canada’s Gold Medal winning hockey team at the U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament this past summer.

Scouting Buzzwords:  Jake Virtanen is a very good skater that has terrific offensive instincts in a “power forward” package.  He has real good hands, a very good shot and he is not afraid to get dirty in the tough areas of the ice.

Prospect Analysis:  Jake Virtanen is an interesting blend of toughness, skill and speed that will probably make him a top 10 prospect.  Jake Virtanen will be a player the scouts will be watching very closely.  He is already 6’1 and 210 lbs and has potential to be that big and skilled power forward that every NHL team covets.  He could be a top pick come draft day in the 15-20 range.  I really like Jake Virtanen’s game.
