WHT analysis
When Drew Stafford arrived in Winnipeg he breathed new life in the Jets “Top Six” forwards and ultimately breathed new life into his game. I think most Jets fans would agree that this was a fair deal for both parties involved. Drew Stafford got a little bump in salary and the Jets aren’t over-committed to another long-term deal right now.
Based on his numbers after arriving in Winnipeg last season it would pro-rate to a 60 point season that most feel would be unattainable for Stafford going forward. He had 24 points in 50 games in Buffalo while tallying 19 points in 26 games with Winnipeg so it looks like the truth lay somewhere in between and he was paid accordingly.
The book is now closed on the “Blockbuster” trade of last February and the net result is:
Buffalo received: Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian, and Jason Kasgorf
Winnipeg received: Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers, Joel Armia, Brendan Lemieux, and Jack Roslovic.
I, along with most observers felt the Jets did pretty good in that trade and now with the signing of Drew Stafford it looks even better!
