U of M Bison Jordan DePape named Canada West Male Second Star of the Week —
University of Manitoba Bison hockey player Jordan DePape was named Canada West Male Second Star of the Week for the week ending February 9/14.
With only two weeks left in the 2013-14 conference regular season, the Manitoba Bisons men’s hockey (11-11-4) earned a crucial road weekend sweep against the Lethbridge Pronghorns and kept ahead of a tight race for the fourth spot and being a host during the first round of playoffs. Rookie forward Jordan DePape made an impact in both games.
DePape (pronounced: De-Pap) was recognized for his outstanding performance as he was selected as the Canada West Male Second Star of the Week for the week ending February 9/14.
During the two game road series, rookie forward Jordan DePape scored a hat trick and added three assists for consecutive multi-point games while adding a plus/minus rating of +6 along with being named second star for both contests.
The Winnipeg native started the weekend as a second star selection when he potted a hat trick and added four shots and a +3 rating in the 8-2 win on Friday. Manitoba gained maximum points during the weekend with a 6-3 victory on Saturday and DePape added three assists, +3 rating and eight shots with another second star selection.
The rookie is rolling as he is now tied for fourth in team scoring with 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) and his point total is tied for third among conference rookie scoring. In addition, his +9 plus/minus rating leads the Bisons in this category.
The Bison men’s hockey team completes the regular season at home against the UBC Thunderbirds (10-14-2) on February 14-15 with major playoff implications as Manitoba could finish as high as fourth or as low as seventh and out of the playoffs. Game times are 7 p.m. CT on Friday and 6 p.m. CT on Saturday with both games at Wayne Fleming Arena at the Max Bell Centre (U of Manitoba campus).
