Brandon Wheat Kings This Week — February 10 —

The WHL playoff race heats up!

The Brandon Wheat Kings begin the week sitting alone in second place in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Division and sixth place in the Conference after splitting a weekend home and home series with the front running Swift Current Broncos.

Seven different players lit the lamp on Friday night at Westman Place as the Wheat Kings skated to an 8-1 victory. However, Sunday night in Swift Current was a different story as the Broncos scored three unanswered second period goals to beat the Wheat Kings 3-0. Brandon went 0 for 8 with the man advantage and managed just 24 shots on goal as Swift Current regained top spot in the division.

Sunday’s game was the first of three straight on the road for the Wheat Kings, who begin the week with a record of 28-21-5-1, good for 62 points.  Brandon will play in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge on Tuesday and Wednesday nights before returning home for a weekend twin bill with the Kootenay Ice.

Entering Tuesday night’s game against the Tigers, Brandon is 11-14-3-1 away from home.
