Brandon Wheat Kings This Week — February 3

The Brandon Wheat Kings returned home Sunday following a grueling 4-game in five night Western Hockey League road trip that saw them collect three of a possible eight points.

Brandon lost games in Edmonton and Calgary, dropped an overtime decision in Red Deer before downing the Blades 4-1 in Saskatoon.

With the win the Brandon Wheat Kings moved back into a first place tie with Swift Current in the WHL’s Eastern Division with a record of 27-19-5-1.

In Saturday night’s game against the Blades, Rihards Bukarts scored twice and rookie netminder Jordan Papirny turned aside 33 shots to pace the winners, who return home this week to host the Medicine Hat Tigers and Swift Current Broncos this week.

Sunday’s game will be the first of a 3-game road trip that will see stops in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.

Rihards Bukarts scored twice in Saturday’s win over the Blades, giving him 21 on the season, which is second in the WHL among rookies … Another rookie – Peter Quenneville – meanwhile had an assist in the game to run his point scoring streak to eight games. Quenneville led the team in scoring in January with six goals and 16 points in twelve games.  Captain Ryan Pulock was next with three goals and 13 points … The Brandon Wheat Kings IMPACT Player of the Month will be announced later today … Jayce Hawryluk has regained the club scoring with fifteen goals and 46 points in 46 games … Rookie Jordan Papirny compiled a 4-1-1 record with a 2.77 goals against average and a .903 save percentage in January.
