Brandon Wheat Kings Info For The Week Of Oct. 28 — Nov. 3 —
Members of the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings are enjoying a day off Sunday as they prepare for the second leg of their 6-game western road swing.
Fresh off back to back losses in Spokane and Kennewick (Tri-Cities Americans) over the weekend, the Wheat Kings have arrived in Seattle and will be back on the ice Monday in preparation for games against the 10-3-0 Thunderbirds on Tuesday and the defending Champion Portland Winter Hawks on Wednesday.
In Friday’s game, the Chiefs blew open a relatively tight game with four third period goals en route to a convincing 7-1 victory. On Saturday, the Americans won their fourth game in five by beating the Wheat Kings 4-1. Tri-Cities scored two first period powerplay goals and never looked back.
With the two losses, Brandon’s road record slipped to 2-5-0 and 7-7-0 overall, dropping them into ninth place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
THIS WEEK’S SCHEDULE:
Tuesday night, October 29th @ Seattle Thunderbirds
Wednesday night, October 30th @ Portland Winterhawks
Friday, November 1st @ Everett Silvertips
Sunday, November 3rd @ Lethbridge Hurricanes
Tuesday’s game will be Taylor Green’s first game against his former club since being moved to Brandon this past August. Meanwhile when Nick Walters takes to the ice on Friday, it will mark his first game in Everett since last year’s Trade Deadline deal that saw the Wheat Kings send Ayrton Nikkel to the Silvertips.
Sunday’s game against the ‘Canes will be Brandon’s first against former starting netminder Corbin Boes since last April’s trade that saw the Wheat Kings send the 20-year old to Lethbridge in exchange for a swap of first round picks. By making that deal, Wheat Kings coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon was able to select highly touted defenceman Kale Claque from Lloydminster with the sixth overall pick.
