Manitoba Bisons Hockey Announce Team Captains

The Manitoba Bison men’s hockey team starts the 78th Canada West season and  pleased to announce the team captains for the 2013-14 season.

Defenceman Dane Crowley is named team captain for the second consecutive season with the Bisons and the alternate captains will be forward Ian Duval, defenceman Jeremy Schappert and forward Jesse Paradis. 

Bison men’s hockey head coach Mike Sirant, in his 18th season at Manitoba, commented, “Bison Hockey is extremely proud to have four exceptional student-athletes to represent our program on and off the ice this season. Dane returns for his fifth season and has shown his strong leadership throughout his Bison career while Ian, Jeremy and Jesse lead by example in their work ethic and commitment to the Bisons.” 

Dane Crowley:  26 —  wears the ‘C’ for the second time for Manitoba and was also two consecutive seasons as an alternate (2010-11, ’11-12). The fifth year forward finished his third season with Manitoba in 2012-13 and earned his third consecutive conference selection (2012-13 Canada West First Team All-Star; 2011-12, ’10-11 Canada West Second Team All-Star). Last season, the Winnipeg native was ninth in Canada West defencemen scoring (ninth in team scoring) with 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in playing 26 of 28 conference regular season games. His five power plays goals was tied for fifth best in 2012-13 conference regular season and added a plus/minus rating of +3 with 67 penalty minutes and 70 shots on goal. 

Ian Duval: 25 — is in his fifth season with Manitoba and first season with the ‘A’. In the 2012-13 season, Duval had his CIS career season best and finished fifth in conference scoring with 32 points (9g, 23a) while playing in all 28 regular season games and five playoff games. He recorded 22 points (11g, 11a) in 26 games in 2011-12.

Jeremy Schappert:  24 — earns his first ‘A” with the Bisons. The fourth year defenceman made his third consecutive appearance as a conference All-Star (2012-13 and 2010-11: Second Team; 2011-12: First Team) last season. The Winnipeg native was fourth in conference defencemen scoring with 21 points (6g, 15a) in playing all 28 games last season and was also selected as 2011-12 Canada West Outstanding Defenceman. 

Jesse Paradis: 22 — has the ‘A’ for the first time in his second season of eligibility. The forward registered eight points (1g, 7a) in 23 games and one assist in five playoff games in 2012-13 season.
