Keystone Junior Hockey League

Another season is underway in the Keystone Junior Hockey League – its 42nd edition in Manitoba.  Last weekend all four teams converged in Cross Lake for a three-day KJHL Showcase.

Each team played three games at the Cross Lake Sports Complex with all counting in the regular season standings.

The host Cross Lake Islanders kicked things off on Friday night with a matchup against the three-time defending league champion Peguis Juniors.  In a tightly contested game throughout the home team needed three goals in the third period to complete the comeback winning 6-5.

Day 2 began with OCN Storm crushing the undermanned Norway House North Stars 12-1.  Peguis would rebound later in the evening defeating the North Stars 7-3.

OCN and the Islanders would meet in prime time Saturday night with the visitors winning a wild one 11-9.  The two teams combined for 104 shots on net.  Troy Head scored a hat trick in the third while CJ Thompson contributed six points for the Storm.  He finished the weekend leading all league scorers with 15 points.

The final day of action saw OCN Storm (5-0-0-0) remain unbeaten on the season defeating Peguis 8-6.  Cross Lake closed the event with an 11-5 route of the North Stars.
