Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Mar. 16

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Winnipeg Jets finished last week with a 1-2-0 record but finished their four game road trip with a 2-2-0 record.  Four out of a possible eight points. Thoughts?

2.  Ondrej Pavelec got his first start since Feb. 19 on Saturday night versus Tampa Bay.  BTW, it was a huge 2-1 WIN!

3.  Exciting news from TNSE that they are relocating their AHL affiliate to Winnipeg for the 2015-16 season.  What would you like to see the team name be?

4.  Paul Postma played his first game in weeks Saturday versus Tampa Bay and was named the third star.  Why was he out of the line-up for so long?

5.  After the Jets loss in Florida and Los Angeles ‘s win over Vancouver Thursday night, the Jets were out of a playoff position for the first time since Nov. 25.

6.  The Winnipeg Jets have 13 games left with 8 being at home and 5 on the road.  They play 3 games next week at the MTS Center.

7.  Have I mentioned lately how much I like Drew Stafford?

8.  I still have the Jets sitting at DEFCON 3 because they are still holding down a wildcard spot.

9.  Lee Stempniak is a crafty veteran and very under-rated IMO.

10.  I hated everything about Kucherov’s hit on Toby Enstrom including Toby’s part in the hit.  He has to STOP trying to do the “tight turn” when the fore-checker has the boards sealed.  He could have been hurt badly.

11.  Blake Wheeler scored 3 monster goals on the Jets road trip but it is too bad the one in St. Louis was nullified by “the goal heard around the world”.

12.  After the Jets dropped out of a playoff position Thursday night, the sound of breaking ankles from jumping off the bandwagon was deafening in Winnipeg.  (see #5)

13.  Paul Postma sure looked pretty confident carrying the puck for a guy that hasn’t played in forever and his compete level was very good.  (see #4)

14.  Get used to hearing “biggest game of the year” from now until the end of the season … because it will be.

15. It doesn’t matter who’s in goal for the Jets if Mark Stuart keeps backing in and giving forwards unchallenged shots from the slot.  He did this two games in a row.

16.  PP update:  The Jets PP improved 1 spot this week and is sitting at 17th place at 18.0% overall.

17.  PK update:  The Jets PK remained at 19th place running at 81.0% overall.

  1. 3. Wasn’t big on the AHL the first time but I may be more inclined now because they’re OUR prospects.
    4. Postma wasn’t at practice today. I think he’s nursing an injury.
    7. I’ve liked Stafford since his UND days.
    14. The next game that won’t be the biggest game ever will be the 2015-16 season opener.

Postma might have an owie … he actually showed some physicality last game … I thought he skated very well and pushed the play … I was impressed.

Truth be told was I hated the Moose because I hated the Canucks … but I’ll like the “new Moose” or whatever …

#10 Totally agree Mitch. Toby does it all the time. Injury not a matter of if but when. Especially when you are that small. Keep moving forward no injury.
    #3 Winnipeg Copters…. I will leave now

Just some observations Mitch: Tyler Myers is playing great hockey. Right now I believe he’s our best defenseman. The Scheifele line with Wheeler and Stafford is a dominant line right now. The trade is looking better and better in my opinion!

The Scheifele line is our best line right now and I always thought Myers and Stafford were good players but they are even better than I thought … it must be the new uniforms!
