Mitch Kasprick is now the “Westdale Curmudgeon”
Odds and Ends, Thoughts, and Questions from this past week in Hockey –
Just so there’s no confusion when I’m spewing my bias, I am a fan of the Winnipeg Jets, Arizona Coyotes, Manitoba Moose, Winnipeg Ice, and all Team Canada Hockey teams.
I am NOT a fan of Gary Bettman or as I call him, Count Chocula. I am a big believer in the 7Ps or is it the 8Ps? You’ve been warned.

1. ICE: The Winnipeg ICE’s season is over and the Seattle Thunderbirds are the WHL CHAMPIONS winning the final, 4 games to one. The T-Birds were the better team with the better goalkeeper and are deserving champions. For me, the difference was that Thomas Milic outplayed Daniel Hauser and Seattle did a better job converting on their chances and they won the special teams battles.
I’m not going to say the Winnipeg ICE choked but losing 4 straight is a little embarrassing and very disappointing.
2. NHL: Hmmmm I don’t understand why this is allowed. FYI: The NHL salary cap is $82,500,000. Of the 16 playoff teams, only 7 were under the regular season salary cap.
When talking about Vegas being over their salary cap in the playoffs I heard the argument that the Jets used Bryan Little’s LTIR money as well and I can’t believe I have to explain the difference BUT Bryan Little wasn’t playing for the Jets and Mark Stone was playing. Could the Jets series have been different if Vegas didn’t have Mark Stone?
3. Jets: This is from the “you can kiss my ass” file
Leon Gawanke story out of Germany (google translated):
“I worked my ass off there for four years, to put it in German, and wasn’t rewarded. That’s obviously frustrating, especially when I see who gets a chance.” #NHLJets https://t.co/nIxxIXn3nv

4. WHC: I’m sure by now everybody has seen the closeup video of Canada’s Joe Veleno (Detroit Red Wings) stomping the calf area of Switzerland’s Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg Jets) in Saturday’s IIHF World Hockey Championship game in Riga, Latvia.
Far as I’m concerned: Joe Veleno should be done for the Worlds. pic.twitter.com/n5vyzNtqxu

5. NHL: Contrary to public opinion just because a game is long doesn’t make it epic or great. The first game of the Florida/Carolina series was compelling because of the score but once the game got longer the quality of hockey lessened as the players were getting worn down. It was dump and chase and get off the ice and it was extremely boring.
6. Jets: Listening to some of the Jets trade rumours on social media is painful at times. My favourite one so far was from a guy in Toronto. Ilya Samsonov and Mitch Marner for … are you ready for this? For Connor Hellebuyck, Pierre-Luc Dubois, AND Nikolaj Ehlers. I think this poor delusional fucker was probably dropped on his head more than once as an infant and he probably smoked so much ganja in high school he fried his last few remaining brain cells.
7. WHC: If I was being completely honest I have to say I’ve enjoyed more of the WHC games than the NHL playoffs. There’s just something about hockey on the big ice that appeals to me.
8. Jets: Jets prospect Brad Lambert is off to the Memorial Cup after a very good WHL Final versus the Winnipeg ICE where he scored 3 goals and added 3 helpers in 5 games.
Everyone say Good Morning to WHL Champion Brad Lambert 🤩 pic.twitter.com/tFZtEpIDU4

9. NHL: I’m not sure I’ve seen the standard of officiating this low in years in the NHL. These guys should have to be made available to the media after games.
10. NHL: Odds and ends:
- So far all four games in both conference finals have gone to overtime. FYI, this is the first time this has happened.
- Brad Lambert finished the WHL playoffs with 6G 20A 26Pts +13
- The Memorial Cup starts this Friday in Kamloops, BC.
- I must admit I was surprised Kyle Dubas was let go as the Leafs’ GM.
- Once again bad news for the Coyotes as Tempe, AZ taxpayers voted NO on 3 propositions for an arena and entertainment project in Tempe.

Toronto trade rumors, what a joke. Their media needs to get off their high horse and quit believing that the sun shines out of the Leafs butt hole. If Canada were to get an enema, you’d stick the hose in Toronto.
Hey Hart … thanks for visiting. Yup they are something LOL
