Odds and Ends, Thoughts, and Questions from this past week in Hockey –

Just so there’s no confusion when I’m spewing my bias, I am a fan of the Winnipeg Jets, Arizona Coyotes, Manitoba Moose, Winnipeg Ice, and all Team Canada Hockey teams.

I am NOT a fan of Gary Bettman or as I call him, Count Chocula.  I am a big believer in the 7Ps or is it the 8Ps?  You’ve been warned.

May 8:  NHL Draft Lottery (7 p.m. ET)

June 3:  Tentative start of Stanley Cup Final

June 4-10:  NHL Scouting Combine

June 26:  2023 NHL Awards

June 28:  Round 1 of the 2023 NHL Draft (7 p.m. ET)

June 29:  Rounds 2-7 of the 2023 NHL Draft (11 a.m. ET)

1. Jets:  I have to admit that I’m a little surprised at the amount of negativity directed towards the Jets franchise and the players and for the most part it is justified BUT I don’t like how the negative fans are painting all the players with the same brush. It’s just not fair.

2. Jets:  Can you see Chevy do a full rebuild when, Arizona, Chicago, Nashville, and St. Louis are in rebuild mode?  I don’t.

3. Jets:  It’s hard to believe Helly is 30 years old.  Wow does time fly.

Connor Hellebuyck on his UFA status next summer:

That’s hard to answer.  It’s a lot to think about.  We are only two days removed.  My main goal is to win a Stanley cup, and I’m starting to run out of time.  I can feel it.

I just want to win a cup.  I don’t know what the future of this team looks like.  I don’t know what their plans are.  I don’t know if I’m in it.  I’m not interesting in a rebuild.

I believe Helle resigns and gets paid but he sure would fetch a nice return in the trade market.

4. Jets:  Well deserved.

The #TBLightning sign Mikey Eyssimont to a two-year extension carrying an $800,000 AAV. It’s a one-way deal.

Eyssimont could have been a Group 6 UFA this summer.

6. Jets:  I didn’t think Josh Morrissey was going to win the Norris Trophy but I thought he was a lock for one of the three nominations.  Oh well.  Dougie Hamilton and Miro Heiskainen also had good years as well.

7. ICE:  The Winnipeg ICE surprisingly swept the Saskatoon Blades in four straight to win the Eastern Conference Final and will play either Seattle or Kamloops for the WHL Championship.

8. Jets:  Some good news on the prospect front.

Domenic Divincentiis named OHL goalie of the year.

He set new records for his North Bay Battalion in wins (36), GAA (2.33), save % (.919) and he tied for most shutouts (5) in the league.
