Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —
Some things that crossed my mind this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.
1. The Winnipeg Jets played 2 road games this week going 2-0-0 … 4 of 4 points. Thoughts?
2. Winnipeg Jets Head Coach Paul Maurice broke the recent goaltender platooning pattern by starting Michael Hutchinson in consecutive games for the first time this season.
3. Congratulations to Mathieu Perreault on setting a Winnipeg Jets 2.0 record for scoring points in 8 consecutive games.
4. The Winnipeg Jets lead all NHL teams with 6 prospects in the WJHC … Petan, Comrie, Morrissey, De Leo, Kostalek, and Ehlers.
5. Is it just me or does it seem like Grant Clitsome is playing a lot more physical this season? Actually, the whole defensive corp has stepped up their physicality!
6. They say you can never have enough defencemen and that during the course of an NHL season you might need as many as 8. The Winnipeg Jets have been the poster boy for that statement!
7. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for 3 to 4 days after the Jets laid a licking on the Blackhawks. Merry Christmas to me! Thank you Jets!
8. If you want info on the WJHC use this site ☛ ☛ IIHF NOT Hockey Canada’s. (brutal updates and no stats) … Sorry HC!
9. Starting tonight (Monday) versus the Wild, the Jets have 4 in a row at home.
10. Jets prospect Nic Petan is off to a nice start at the WJHC with 1 goal and 5 assists in his first 2 games!
11. I have found Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers work in his own end of the ice at the WJHC very under-whelming after his first 3 games.
12. Hutch starts in goal tonight versus Minny (3 in a row). NOW it’s really official, we have a full-blown goaltending controversy. (see #2)
13. It’s possible (if including Buff) the Winnipeg Jets could have 10 healthy defencemen on their roster in a few weeks. (see #6)
14. Of the 6 prospects I mentioned in #4, how many do you think will ever wear a Jets jersey? (minimum 50 games)
15. I hope everyone enjoys the New Years Eve double-header. (Jets vs Isles and Canada vs U.S.A.)
16. I would like to wish all of our readers at Winnipeg Hockey Talk a very Happy New Year! Be safe and “Don’t drink and drive”.
If you have any thoughts on any of these comments or questions, please let me know. I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.
Thanks, Mitch

Hi Mitch. I always enjoy your random thoughts. Number 14: I see five out of the six playing for the Jets in the future. Kostalek is a player I haven’t seen play or read much about , but hopefully he will contribute as well. The Jets have drafted well in my opinion and are not rushing any of these players which is so important ( see Edmonton).
Goaltender controversy number 12: I believe that Hutchinson has won the starting position by his play. Pavelec will have to really bring his game up to Hutchinson’s level if he hopes to unseat him. I don’t see Pavelec as our top goaltender in the future. Once Hellebucyk and Comrie mature I don’t think Pavelec will be a Jet.
A question. Do you know what the injury status is with Bogosian? Is he out until February? I know I’m being critical but man this guy gets hurt every year! He is said to be the best athlete on the team but man is he injury prone. In my mind I would like to see him moved for a forward or two, but ultimately Chevy knows better than I.
Happy New Year Mitch and again appreciate the Hockey talk!
re: Kostalek … he is playing solid hockey in the QMJHL and has a chance … I remember the play Bogo got injured … he blocked a shot with his leg if I remember correctly, limped to the bench and was done.
Happy New Year to you too !!!!
