Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —
Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.
1. The Winnipeg Jets finished last week with a 2-1-0 record and four more points in the bank. Thoughts?
2. The Winnipeg Jets and the Buffalo Sabres pulled off one of the biggest trades in recent years with the Jets sending Evander Kane, Zach Bogosian and prospect Jason Kasdorf (Winnipeger) to the Sabres in exchange for Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers, prospects Joel Armia, Brendan Lemieux and a 2015 1st round draft pick. (from NYI or St.L)
3. I was a little surprised that Kevin Cheveldayoff was able to move Evander Kane so quickly. I guess he really wanted to eliminate that distraction from the Jets locker room.
4. Welcome to Winnipeg Drew Stafford and Tyler Myers!
5. They say (whoever THEY are) that the team that gets the best player usually wins the trade and most people think Evander Kane was the best player in this deal. So did the Sabres win this trade?
6. The Nashville Predators traded Olli Jokinen to Toronto this weekend making this his 9th NHL team.
7. The early consensus is that the “big trade” was a win/win for both teams but IMHO if the Jets can re-sign Drew Stafford and if either one or both of Armia or Lemieux pan out it could be a HUGE win for the Jets and that’s not even counting the 1st round pick! (see #5)
8. Every once in a while, I’d like to see Buff in front of the net on the PP and especially against big goalies like Pekka Rinne.
9. I’m guessing the 2 new Jets are pretty excited to be thrown into the middle of a play-off race instead of tanking for Connor McDavid!
10. It was interesting to see Coach Maurice shorten his bench in the 3rd period versus Nashville and going with the Myers/Enstrom and Trouba/Buff pairings.
11. It didn’t take long for Drew Stafford and Tyler Myers to make a positive impact with their new team. Myers had 2 assists and was named 1st star of the game while Stafford scored a goal in regulation and had the only goal in the shootout versus Detroit on Saturday night. (see #4)
12. Fact: Olli Jokinen has only played in 1217 regular season games and only 6 playoff games …. hmmmm! (see #6)
13. Did you know that Brendan Lemieux is the son of super-pest Claude Lemieux? AND they say (once again THEY) that this apple didn’t fall far from the tree either!
14. Good Luck to Evander Kane and Zach Bogosian with their new team in Buffalo.
15. The NHL Trade Deadline is only 15 days away! Who is on your Winnipeg Jets wish list?
If you have any thoughts on any of these comments or questions, please let me know. I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.
Thanks, Mitch

Totally agree with number 8 on your list. I would like to see Buff in front of the net. He would be impossible to handle by most defensemen.
exactly … It’s not like Trouba couldn’t play the point on the PP
5. Time will tell. If Staff and Myers sign here and even one of Lemieux Armia or the 1st rnd oick work out down the road then clearly Jets win trade. I believe we will win the deal.
15. Wish list is Sekera, Bergenheim
Bergenheim could still be in play for Winnipeg
