Offensive Buzzwords
Brycen Martin has developed into a very solid 2-way defenceman. The combination of being a good skater with a decent shot that can also pass the puck very well has seen him elevate the offensive part of his game in 2013-14. Like all good offensive defensemen he has good hockey sense and sees the ice well.
Skating
He is a good skater with excellent mobility.
Defensive Buzzwords
Brycen Martin is very smart defensively. He is very sound positionally and uses his size effectively in front of the net and along the boards. He also makes a good first pass on the breakout. He played much better in his own end than his -16 rating.
Prospect Analysis
Brycen Martin already has NHL size and with his offensive game on the upswing could be a real sleeper going into this years draft. He is developing into a very good two way defenceman that all NHL teams covet. He has the look of a top four blueliner that will be competent in both ends of the rink. He has all the tools, size, skating, skill and grit. I have him rated as a late first round/early second round pick but he could surprise and go much higher. Top blueliners are at a premium this draft.
