Analysis:
This was a signing most Winnipeg Jets fans had hoped for. Dylan DeMelo was a comfortable fit for this team and this city right from the get-go. Paul Maurice loved him so I along with most Jets fans were quite surprised it took this long to announce this extension. Jets fans were getting a little bit nervous with “NHL Free Agency” starting in a couple of days.
It has been a pretty good 24-hours for Winnipeg Jets fans with the drafting of Cole Perfetti and the contract extension of Dylan DeMelo.
Final Thoughts:
This contract was a nice raise for DeMelo and very team-friendly. During his “Zoom” chat with the media, he called it life-changing money for him and his family.
More from Dylan DeMelo
I heard Winnipeg is an amazing place to raise a family. My wife and I are expecting our first child in January.
I was given an amazing role in WPG when he got traded, playing Top 4 and playing PK as well. Need on the team on RD, and I felt I fit in well. I felt Winnipeg was my top choice once the Jets were eliminated.
Although Dylan DeMelo is not a top-pairing defenceman he was still a must sign for this team. He seemed to mesh very well with Josh Morrissey. Overall this was a solid add for this team.

Hey Mitch it has been a while. I must say I have lost a lot of confidence with the Jets especially on defence. As a group they are too small compared to what other teams have on defence in my opinion. Perfetti was a great pick but thought they would draft a big mobile defenseman with their second.
Unless Chevy can pull a rabbit out of his hat over the course of free agency or make some trades I can’t see this team as it is, improving. They have ample skill but not the grit that teams like Dallas and Tampa showed in the final. Hope I am wrong as I am still a fan but I am not confident.
Hey George … I was actually thinking about calling you … I was thinking about doing the podcasts again when we get close to the new season … I haven’t done one since Manny passed away … I lost my will when he passed.
The Jets might have to overpay during the UFA period but I prefer that to using a forward as trade bait … UFAs are free roster players except for the money LOL
Hey Mitch that might be a good idea. I was shocked to hear about Manny passing away. Too young! Let’s keep in touch.
