Brandon Wheat Kings Weekly: Sept. 22

Brandon Wheat Kings this week –

The Brandon Wheat Kings kicked off their 2014-15 Western Hockey League season in fine fashion this past weekend by sweeping the Regina Pats in a home and home series.

Tyler Coulter’s third period goal Friday night was the difference as the Wheat Kings brought the curtain up on the new season with a 4-2 victory before over 4,500 fans at Westman Communications Group Place.

On Saturday, Jesse Gabrielle’s first ever WHL hat trick led Brandon to an impressive 6-1 victory over the Pats. Rookies Duncan Campbell and Ivan Provorov each scored their first ever WHL goals in the game, that featured a 23-save performance from second year netminder Jordan Papriny.

Brandon was one of three Eastern Division teams to sweep their season opening home and home series this past weekend, joining the Prince Albert Raiders and Swift Current Broncos. While Prince Albert was beating Saskatoon, the Broncos were scoring back to back victories over the Moose Jaw Warriors.
