Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Apr. 6

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Winnipeg Jets had a 1-1-0 record this past week.  Two out of a possible four points. Thoughts?

2.  The Winnipeg Jets play their final 4 regular games this week and actually control their own playoff destiny.

3.  The league has ruled on Dustin Byfuglien’s cross-check to JT Miller and he was suspended for 4 games.  Fair or too many?

4.  The Winnipeg Jets sure picked a poor time of the year to play their worst defensive hockey of the season.

5.  Ben Chiarot has been activated from the IR and will probably take Toby Enstrom’s spot on the roster.

6.  I guess it wouldn’t be a stretch to say this is the biggest week in Winnipeg Jets 2.0 history and it starts tonight in Minnesota.  (see #2)

7.  After a terrific stretch, Ondrej Pavelec has come down to earth and is providing AVERAGE goaltending at best lately and I’m extremely nervous going into this 3 game road trip.

8.  Winnipeg Jets are sitting at DEFCON 2.  They are tied for the last wildcard spot but L.A. gets it on the tie-breaker.

9.  Zach Bogosian took a lot of crap for being often injured but Toby Enstrom isn’t exactly setting any “Ironman” streaks and either is Dustin Byfuglien.

10.  Would it be fair to say that going forward the Winnipeg Jets are in good hands on the right side of their blue-line?  Myers, Trouba, Byfuglien, Postma.

11.  The Winnipeg Jets forward lines are as good as we’ve seen in Winnipeg since their arrival from Atlanta.  Could you imagine if we had this group for the whole season?

12.  Jacob Trouba is trying to do a little too much and he is struggling right now and I believe this is a direct result of his partner.  Mark Stuart is a bottom pair defenceman at best and gets too many minutes.

13.  I was surprised and extremely disappointed by the backlash Dustin Byfuglien received from some local media and especially from some Winnipeg Jets fans AND I vented about it in a recent article ☛ ☛ HERE

14.  Question Jets fans:  Will the Jets make the playoffs because of Ondrej Pavelec or in spite of Ondrej Pavelec?  I’m not a Pavelec fan but I hope the Jets make it because of him.  I don’t think I could endure another summer of Ondrej Pavelec bashing in this city.

15.  WHEN the Winnipeg Jets make the playoffs and with the expanded rosters, don’t be surprised if Connor Hellebuyck gets called up with the big team after the IceCaps play their final regular season game.

16.  Since January, 2015, the Jets are 15-5-2 at the MTS Centre.

17.  Next Saturday it could be Atlanta 1.0 versus Atlanta 2.0 for the final Western Conference Wildcard spot.

18.  PP update:  The Jets PP dropped 4 spots this week and is sitting in 15th place at 18.6% overall.

19.  PK update:  The Jets PK improved 2 spots and is sitting in 13th place running at 81.3% overall.

20.  GO JETS GO !!!!!!!!!!
