Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Mar. 14

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind —

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the Winnipeg Jets, the Manitoba Moose, and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Winnipeg Jets ended up going 1-2-0 on the week and are 28-35-5 overall.  We’re in the hunt for Auston!  Yay!

2.  I was quite happy to acquire Blake Wheeler in my fantasy leagues for next season.  Jets players are hard to come by and especially the good ones

3.  Congrats to Scott Kosmachuk on his first NHL point and it wasn’t a cheapy either; a primary assist on Adam Lowry’s game-winning goal versus Colorado on Saturday night.

4.  Kyle Connor finished his NCAA regular season with a very impressive 30 goals and 31 assists in 34 games.

UPDATE:

5.  It took the Jets almost a year and a half but they finally won a hockey game when trailing after two periods.  They were down 2-1 to the Avs and scored two unanswered goals in the third period for a 3-2 victory Saturday night.

6.  VOTE for St. Laurent here >>>> http://goo.gl/r1JqFE  for KRAFT HOCKEYVILLE … vote as many times as you want.  Voting closes tomorrow night so vote early and often.  Let’s get this done fellow Manitobans.

7.  I have a funny feeling that, going forward, Andrew Copp might be a better regular season performer than Adam Lowry BUT Adam Lowry will be a big-time playoff performer.

8.  What are the Jets going to do with Michael Hutchinson and Paul Postma this off-season?

9.  I’m not happy with a lot of things going on with the Winnipeg Jets but I’m not sure who to be pissed off at.  I don’t think Chevy is pulling all the strings and making all the decisions the G.M. should be making.

10.  I’m a huge Mark Scheifele supporter and I’m loving his play right now but I learned a long time ago not to put too much stock into the results during the “garbage time” of the year.

11.  Is anybody else liking the Andrew Copp/Alex Burmistrov tandem on the penalty kill?

12.  I don’t miss Mark Stuart one iota.

13.  The major advantage of finishing 30th in the NHL standings is that you would then draft no worse than 4th overall guaranteeing you either Auston Matthews, Jesse Puljujarvi, Patrik Laine, or Matthew Tkachuk.  All four are considered game changing players.

14.  The Jets PK is starting to get some traction but the PP is still not getting any results although it has looked sporadically better at times.  IMO, one of their biggest failures on the PP is the lack of a quality one-timer from anyone.

15.  I think it’s time to sit Thorburn and Halischuk and give a few more players on the farm a game or two here and there down the stretch.

16.  Things that make you go hmmm?:  If Kyle Connor, Nic Petan, Chase De Leo and/or Josh Morrissey are in the mix for roster spots next year or the year after, the big, bad, hard to play against, Jets might be awfully small and light.

17.  Winnipeg Jets Special teams update:

PK:  25th at 78.3% up from 26th at 77.7% last week.

PP:  28th at 15.5% down from 29th at 15.9% last week.

18.  Lottery standings update:

2016 Lottery

19.  Countdown to the 2016 World Cup:  188 days (Sept. 17-Oct. 1 in Toronto)  Final rosters to be posted on June 1.

20.  I woke up in a cold sweat after dreaming that the 2016-17 Winnipeg Jets still had Chris Thorburn, Mark Stuart, Anthony Peluso and Ondrej Pavelec on the roster.

  1. 9. Do you think that Chevy is making or not making all the decisions, or are his puppet strings being pulled by the ownership?

    12. The feeling is mutual.

    15. Yes!!

    20. Sadly, I fully expect that your nightmare will come to fruition. *sniff*

I think Papa Geppetto has his hands in the cookie jar.

      • Glad I’m not the only one that thinks that. I’m not a conspiracy theorist by nature, but more than one person needs to be behind these poor decisions. Get the emotion out and use business sense!

  2. 3 – Kosmachuk was a presence on the ice. Played well.
4 – I think the Moose might be able to fit Connor in next season.
8 – Is Pavlec un-tradeable? Where’s Paul Holmgren when you need him?
10 – I like #55 as number one centre better than Little.
    12 – Mark who?
    16 – Chicago. N’uff said.
    20 – Can’t happen.

the biggest difference is Chicago has “world class” players like Toews, Kane, Seabrooke, Keith to carry the mail
