Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —
These were a few of the things that rattled through my head this past week about the NHL and our Winnipeg Jets.
1. FACT: The Winnipeg Jets have been shutout twice in their first five games!
2. Two home games in the books and 1 goal to show for them! Now that’s disturbing.
3. The Nashville Predators aren’t that far off from the team that made the playoffs for 3 straight season from 2009-10 through 2011-12. When you have a goaltender like Pekka Rinne, you’re already half-way there.
4. Jets just can’t win! They’re getting solid goaltending from Ondrej Pavelec and now they can’t score … OR … Are these both just aberrations?
5. The Jets looked very good in the first period versus Calgary but were manhandled for the final 40 minutes. WE HAVE A PROBLEM !!!
6. I’m just wondering how all of the Winnipeg Jets offence can dry up with ONE injury (Evander Kane). What the hell is going on? (see #1)
7. What does “It’s only 5 games into the season” mean?
8. The good news in Jetsville is that we are getting a chance to watch Mark Scheifele develop right in front of our eyes.
9. I started watching the Winnipeg Jets back in 1972 and I can’t remember witnessing such a Jekyll and Hyde performance from one period to the next as I did in the Calgary game Sunday night. They were flying in the 1st period and could have been up more than 1-0 and then came the 2nd period. The horror!
10. Since the Winnipeg Jets 6 goal outburst versus Arizona in the season opener, they have only managed to score 2 goals in the next 4 games. I think the boys are squeezing their sticks a little tight right now!
11. In the Calgary game, I liked Adam Lowry centering the 3rd line and even though the team collapsed in the final 40 minutes I thought the 3rd line was okay!
12. So, I guess the answer must be inserting Grant Clitsome and Matt Halischuk into the line-up to shake things up. Ah, I don’t think so!
13. I wonder if Chevy is starting to feel the heat?
14. Peluso and Thorburn don’t annoy me a much when they are both on the 4th line.
15. Winnipeg Jets after 5 games – Goals for: 8 Goals against: 15. You can draw your own conclusions.
If you have any thoughts on any of these comments or questions, please let me know. I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.
