UPDATED: 2016-17 “NHL 3-Point” Standings

Alternative NHL 3-Point Standings (3-points for a regulation win) –

It’s that time of year again where I get on my soapbox and plead for the National Hockey League to come to their senses and have ALL hockey games worth 3-points. For those of you that know me you’ll understand.  For those of you that don’t it can be explained by my original articles linked at the bottom of this page.

Starting mid-January I will once again give hockey fans the alternative NHL 3 point standings (3 point regulation win) so we can see how the standings would look if ALL games were worth 3 points.  For now, we will post the standings weekly and maybe even daily closer to the end of the season.

The actual NHL standings are posted on the left and the alternative standings on the right.  The alternative standings are based on the NHL allotting 3 points in every NHL game.  Three (3) points would be awarded for a win in regulation time instead of 2 points while OT and SO wins will be two points and finally one point for an OT or SO loss.

The NHL 3-point standings will now be in a  3 – 2 – 1 – 0  format.

Keep in mind that these standings are skewed because if NHL teams were actually playing in this format the results would/should be much different.
