The Winnipeg Jets 3rd ten game segment –
How many points will it take for the Winnipeg Jets to secure a playoff berth?
- In 2013-14 the Dallas Starts needed 91 points to secure the last wildcard position.
- In 2014-15 the Calgary Flames needed 97 points to secure the last wildcard position.
- In 2015-16 the Minnesota Wild need 87 points to secure the last wildcard position.
- I think that 88-92 points should do it this year and once again it will more than likely not be decided until the final weekend of the regular season.

Winnipeg Jets Segment 3
The Winnipeg Jets started the third segment with three losses that finished off their horrendous (0-5-0) five-game road trip. After that, they finished the segment 4-2-1 and IMHO they may have left a couple of potential points on the table from the Detroit and New York games.
The good news:
- The Winnipeg Jets season looked like it was heading off the rails BUT they averted a potential disaster by sweeping two tough Central Division opponents (St. Louis and Chicago) on back-to-back nights on the road.
- The continued great play of Patrik Laine has been fun to watch.
- The Jets started getting a little healthier with the return of Bryan Little and Mathieu Perreault.
- The goaltending is starting to stabilize and become a little more consistent.
The bad news:
- The Winnipeg Jets lost Mark Scheifele for three games but managed 5-of-6 points with him out of the line-up, so no harm no foul.
- The Winnipeg Jets special teams are terrible and some of Paul Maurice’s player decisions have been questionable, to say the least.
- Mathieu Perreault has done squat, zero, bupkis, this season.
- In the Jets next 10-game segment they play 4 at home and 6 on the road.
Playoffs? Playoffs?
- Even though the Jets are having a hard time getting above the NHL’s bogus .500 mark, they are still in the playoff race BUT they have played more games than every team in the league.
- Winnipeg Jets fans are getting frustrated at the “win one, lose one” rollercoaster. It would be nice to see a winning streak of 3-5 games. This team is right there and like I’ve mentioned previously, there is nothing special in the Western Conference this year.
