Winnipeg Jets: No Respect From Bookies

No Love From the Sports Books For The Winnipeg Jets

I’m not feeling the love for the Winnipeg Jets.

Kevin Allen of USA Today doesn’t like them, nor do any of the bookies who take bets in the U.S. and across the pond in the U.K.

The way Allen has it figured, the Jets are an 88-point team, 90-92 tops for the 2013-14 National Hockey League season, and that won’t be enough to qualify for the 2014 Stanley Cup tournament.

“The move to the West won’t immediately help the Winnipeg Jets,” he writes. “They might need 96 or 97 points to land a playoff spot in their new division alignment. They seem more like an 88-point team, maybe a 90- or 92-point team if they continue to progress.”

Allen might be spot on in suggesting 96-97 points is the target for Western Conference outfits to hit, because the Los Angeles Kings squeezed into post-season play in 2011-12 with 95 points.

Bookies, meanwhile, are no more enthusiastic about the Winnipegs, who have failed to achieve playoff status in their two seasons since arriving in River City. Here are the odds from Bovada.com for each team to win the Stanley Cup in 2014:
