Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Apr. 13

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.

1.  JETS CLINCH … JETS CLINCH … I got that out of my system and I’ll be okay now … JETS CLINCH … JETS CLINCH … now I’m okay 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

2.  The Winnipeg Jets had a 3-0-1 record this past week.  Seven out of a possible eight points. Thoughts?

3.  I think the start times for Jets/Ducks games #3 and #4 are a joke.  What kind of home ice advantage is that?

4.  Can you believe the Winnipeg Jets only scored 3 goals on their 3 game road trip last week and came home with 5 out of 6 points?  How is that possible?

5.  Watch for WHT Podcast #32 at  g5t.f17.myftpupload.com/wht-podcasts which will be our first Winnipeg Jets Playoff Edition.  It should be posted Tuesday afternoon.

6.  CONGRATS to Andrew Copp on his first NHL point.  He recorded an assist on Lee Stempniak’s goal in the third period.

7.  A solid effort by goaltender Michael Hutchinson in the final game of the regular season.  He was a HUGE part in the Winnipeg Jets success this year.

8.  Winnipeg Jets are sitting at DEFCON 5 … stand down … we’re IN.

9.  Backed into the playoffs my ass!  (see #2)

10.  Ondrej Pavelec had 3 consecutive shutouts on their 3 game road trip going 185 minutes without giving up a goal but lost in the skills competition in Denver Thursday night.  Well done Pav. Well done.  (see #4)

11.  It sure is nice to have something to bitch about concerning the Jets come playoff time.  (see #3)

12.  Jacob Trouba was a beast on the Jets 3 game road trip last week and his timing couldn’t be better.

13.  All seven teams in the Central Division had 90 points or more … that’s just crazy!

14.  Five teams in the Central Division had 99 points or more and they are ALL in the playoffs.

Ondrej Pavelec is in a zone right now!

15.  I asked this question last week.

“If the Jets make the playoffs will it be because of Ondrej Pavelec or in spite of Ondrej Pavelec”.

I think the answer is a pretty resounding “BECAUSE OF ONDREJ PAVELEC”.  I’m not sure if I’m completely “bought in’ but I’m happy for him because of all the abuse he takes in this city.

16.  Since January, 2015, the Jets are 16-5-2 at the MTS Centre.

17.  The Jets 2.0 start their first playoff series on Thursday night in Anaheim.  All games will be televised on SportsNet.

18.  PP update:  The Jets PP dropped 2 more spots this week and finished the season in 17th place at 17.8% overall.

19.  PK update:  The Jets PK remained the same this week and finished the season in 13th place running at 81.8% overall.

20.  GO JETS GO !!!!!!!!!!

  1. 3. Completely agree, and why? Are there any fans in Anaheim who actually want to watch. It’s the same for both teams back in Winnipeg. Both will hate the late start and how it messes with game day prep … are they really gonna stay on Pacific time the whole series?

    10. Also not a believer yet but he played better than I’ve ever seen, looked comfortable, got in front of the puck and didn’t make as many spectacular saves that come from being totally outta position ….. BTW, completely bogus that with three consecutive shutouts he’s only the SECOND star of the week for the NHL. Other performances pale.

    Great post! Thanks as always.
