Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Feb. 23

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

Some random facts and a few thoughts from this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.

1.  The Winnipeg Jets finished last week with a 1-1-1 record.  Three out of a possible six points.  Thoughts?

2.  The Winnipeg Jets were taken to overtime versus Edmonton (win) and Toronto (loss) causing a lot of concern in Jetsville.

3.  If Chevy is making a move or two, I hope it is sooner than later.  This team needs forward help NOW!

4.  I don’t think the Jets can be happy with the way either goaltender is playing right now.

5.  Would it be an understatement to say the Winnipeg Jets need points in all four games of their upcoming home-stand versus Dallas, St. Louis, L.A. and Ottawa?

6.  The Jets can’t continue with 7 NHL caliber forwards (Scheifele and Lowry under 21 yrs old) and expect to win in this league unless they can completely shut teams down defensively and win 1-0 or 2-1.  (see #3)

7.  Should Jets fans be concerned that they don’t have one player in St. John’s they can call up and plug into their line-up?

8.  I still have the Jets sitting at DEFCON 3 because they are still holding down a wildcard spot.

23 feb wildcard 9.  The Jets play 3 games before the trade deadline!  (see #3)

10.  I wonder if the Jets have even considered giving Connor Hellebuyck at look with the big club.  I seriously doubt it but … (see #4)

11.  Carl Klingberg had 2:51 of ice-time Saturday versus Toronto.  (see #7)

12.  The Jets may be doing a good job of restocking the cupboards but the problem is 90% of their prospects are still in junior or college.  (see #7)

13.  The NHL Trade Deadline is only 8 days away!  Who is on your Winnipeg Jets wish list?

14.  Good news:  The Jets PP in the last 20 games has risen from 20th place to 13th place at 18.5% overall.

15.  Bad news:  The Jets PK in the last 20 games has dropped to 19th place from 9th place running at 80.5% overall.

If you have any thoughts on any of these comments or questions, please let me know.  I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.

  1. When the Jet’s had their pre All-Star game run up the charts they did it with sound defense, adherence to a solid defensive system, and strong goal-tending. As a result they won a lot of very low scoring games. Unfortunately, that was too good to last. Weaknesses are now being exposed. See items #1 – #15 inclusive above.

and then Bogo, Toby and Trouba came back and everyone relaxed thinking they could cruise …. obviously the system and the commitment wasn’t 100% instilled in everyone.

  2. Hard to tell if we have any fwds in St Johns when they only get the press box or 3 min playing time when they do get called. To expect anybody to show anything in 3 min is ludicrous! They have no chance of success in what amounts to 4 or 5, 30 second shifts.

call me crazy but I think Klingberg can play … I’ve seen lots of IceCaps games and I like his game … he has improved his consistency quite a bit that last couple of years.
