Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: August 18

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

Instead of being serious all the time and writing a commentary or an opinion piece we will jot down some random musings once a week.  It might be a mix of serious, playful or maybe even a little sarcastic but it should be fun.  If you have answers please let us know.

1.  Congratulations to Paul Edmonds, the new radio play by play voice of the Winnipeg Jets.

2.  After one season in the Western Conference, who would you consider the Jets biggest rival?

3.  Chicago might be shopping Nick Leddy due to salary cap problems.  Are the Winnipeg Jets interested?

4.  Considering Dustin Penner is still out there as an “Unrestricted Free Agent”, should the Jets take a chance on him?

5.  Will Dustin Byfuglien finish the 2014-15 season as a Winnipeg Jet?

6.  If you don’t follow original Winnipeg Jet 1.0 Scott Campbell on twitter, what are you waiting for?  @NHL_Campbell

7.  Considering that I’m a huge Jets and Coyotes fan, is it wrong to admit that one of my favorite players in the NHL is David Backes?

8.  Who would you rather see playing LD on the second pairing along side Jacob Trouba this season?  Josh Morrissey or Nick Leddy? (see question #3).

9.  Isn’t the MTS IcePlex an awesome facility?

10.  Who would you rather see as the Jets third line LW.  Dustin Penner or Eric O’Dell?  (See question #4).

Now some of these questions are serious, some are just tongue in cheek and some are me just being a _________. (you fill in the blank)

If you have any thoughts on any of these questions please let me know.  I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.

Thanks, Mitch

  1. Don’t understand why we are not looking at Dustin Penner. Big local guy with good hands. Should be motivated to perform well.

    • Mitch Kasprick says

Penner may have his flaws but he seems to be on a lot of winning teams and has been a solid contributor in the playoffs.

    • It’s fine that Penner is a local boy but it’s better to have spots filled by “home-grown” products. If you’re serious about a “draft and develop” strategy you need to leave room on the roster for some of these guys.

      • Mitch Kasprick says

I don’t disagree with you but there isn’t a team in any sport that has been built by only “draft and develop” …. Penner may not be the answer but the LW position looks pretty bare to me …. maybe Ehlers can surprise us all!
