Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —
Some things that crossed my mind this past week about the Winnipeg Jets and the National Hockey League.
1. The Winnipeg Jets went 1-2-1 this week … Three points. Thoughts?
2. I still can’t get the bitter taste out of my mouth from that last second loss to San Jose on Monday night. There are no excuses for that at the NHL level.
3. Check out my mid-season Winnipeg Jets report cards. Here ☛☛ forwards and ☛☛ defence.
4. The WJHC is over and Canada won the Gold Medal. All is right in the universe again!
5. The Winnipeg Jets walking wounded are starting to return to the line-up. It’s time to go on a run!
6. Hutch was a perfect 4 for 4 in his first NHL shoot-out Saturday night versus the L.A. Kings!
7. The win versus L.A. kind of took the sting away from the loss in Arizona Thursday night but I still can’t let go of the last second collapse against San Jose. (see #2)
8. Congrats to Dustin Byfuglien for being selected to play in the 2015 NHL All-Star game in Columbus.
9. The Winnipeg Jets continue to lead the NHL in PP opportunities against.
10. I think I’ve mentioned this before but I think it bares repeating. I would make my penalty killers use wood sticks while on the PK. I’m tired of seeing those crappy “balsa wood” composite sticks exploding and rendering a penalty killer basically useless.
11. The Winnipeg Jets prospects all fared pretty well in the WJHC. Check out my report here ☛☛ Part 1 and ☛☛ Part 2
12. The Teemu Selanne tribute on Sunday night in Anaheim was well done and very special for Ducks and Jets fans.
13. The Winnipeg Jets PK unit took a beating this week and the way this team takes penalties they better get that fixed real quick! (see #9)
14. Why does it always seem the dumb penalties are the hardest ones to kill?
15. Last but not least, Winnipeg Hockey Talk is mourning the loss of a great friend in Shawn Coates. He passed away on Friday and will be missed by many.
If you have any thoughts on any of these comments or questions, please let me know. I am a curious person by nature and I need answers.

Hi Mitch I agree with your thoughts on the penalties. It really puts them in a bind especially against the elite teams. The San Jose loss was a killer I agree. Watched a Paul Maurice interview on Jets TV talking about his first year as coach and it was very good. He said a lot of great things about the people and the City. What I found interesting is he seems to have a long term plan with the team. He is going to hopefully get the team to play a consistent game and then implement improvements from there. He loves the compete level of the club and with the young kids developing we could see some big things in the future. Enjoy the articles!
Thanks George … I agree … I think once he gets HIS optimum line-up he will implement a real consistent winning system as far as 5v5 is concerned …. special teams will hopefully be better too!
