Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Nov. 17

Things about the Winnipeg Jets and the NHL that crossed my mind over the weekend —

These were a few of the things that rattled through my head this past week about the NHL and our Winnipeg Jets.

1.  The Winnipeg Jets were 1-2-1 this past week.  Three out of eight points BUT finished their five game road trip 2-2-1 garnering 5 points.

2.  Grant Clitsome has shown a physical side to his game that is surprising many Jets fans, yours truly, included!

3.  The Jets finally found some “puck-luck” in the third period on Sunday versus Minnesota BUT still rang 2 goalposts in the 3rd period when the score was 3-3!

4.  I hope Mark Scheifele wasn’t injured too seriously Sunday night versus Minnesota.

5.  So far, so good for back-up goaltender Michael Hutchinson.

6.  My “first quarter” Winnipeg Jets report card comes out later this week.

7.  It was nice to see Matt Halischuk get into a couple games this week.

8.  Third week in a row saying this BUT … Lowry/Perreault/Byfuglien are spending a lot of time in the opponent’s end but not getting the results.  I guess it’s better than being hemmed in your own end.  Right?

 9.  I don’t think I’ve mentioned lately how much I HATE the trapezoid and how stupid it looks on the ice.  Am I alone on this?

10.  Check out our podcast later today with special guest Jeff Hamilton from CBC.ca … not that the two Darryls aren’t special too!  Whew, that was close!

11.  Look at Stu chipping in a couple helpers in a 3-1 win versus Carolina on Thursday night!

12.  If the Winnipeg Jets can average 11 points in every 10 game segment it should put them right in playoff contention on the last weekend of the NHL regular season.  Read my article here  ☛ ☛ “Slow and steady should do it”

13.  The Winnipeg Jets just finished a stretch of 12 road games in their first 19 games.  NOW it’s time to make some hay at home!

14.  December is the Jets best month for home games.  Nine at home and four away.  It sure would be nice to be a dominant home team.

15.  As on Monday morning, the Jets have 12 points, nine games into their second 10 game segment.  (see #12)

  1. 2. Clitsome has been better than I expected this year.
    7. Halischuk over Thorburn. That should be the trend for the rest of the season.
    9. Not a fan of the trapezoid either. Somewhere Martin Brodeur is smiling.
    14. How the Jets handle the “pressure” from the home crowd could determine their fate for the season.

Now that’s what I call a thorough response … thanks for reading all the way from N.S. 🙂

  3. Good to see Stu get a few helpers. I like the guy. Plays with grit, that’s what I like to see more of .
