Why The Winnipeg Jets Were Winners On Deadline Day

The Jets stood pat and did nothing at the NHL Trade Deadline — but is that really a bad thing?

On the weekend, I wrote an article where I said I suspected the Jets might be buyers at the deadline and listed five players I thought they should go after.  Two of those five players ended up being moved, but neither of them to Winnipeg.  In fact, the Jets didn’t make a single move.  But was it really wise to do NOTHING when you’re a hockey club on the cusp of making the playoffs?  Perhaps some added players can push you into the playoffs?  Once you’re at the dance, can’t anything happen? While this is all true, GM Kevin Cheveldayoff made the right decision to stay idle on Monday. [Read more…]

Random Thoughts From Motown Mitch: June 25

Mitch Kasprick is the “Motown Curmudgeon” aka “Motown Mitch”

Just so there’s no confusion when I’m spewing my bias, I am a fan of the Winnipeg Jets, Arizona Coyotes, Manitoba Moose, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Winnipeg Goldeyes, Toronto Raptors, all curlers from Manitoba, and all Canadian athletes competing on the international stage.

I am NOT a fan of Gary Bettman or as I call him, Count Chocula.  I am a big believer in the 7Ps.  You’ve been warned.

Winnipeg Jets 2016-17 Roster Predictions: Goaltending

The Winnipeg Jets and their crowded crease –

With their 2015-16 season soon coming to an end the Winnipeg Jets brass certainly have more questions than they do answers about what this team will look like when the camp opens next September.  Arguably, the team is not as bad as its record will suggest making the post-mortem on the worst season since the teams return hotly contested amongst the pundits and fans alike.  Over the next few weeks, we will attempt to look into the crystal ball and try to piece together the opening day lineup, a roster that likely will and should get younger. What Happened to 2019?

The Winnipeg Jets are supposed to win the Stanley Cup in 2019 aren’t they? –

Seems like a distant memory; that day the Winnipeg Jets were featured on the cover if The Hockey News.  Remember when you heard that news?  Fans were so excited!  The thought of their team hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup put smiles on many fans faces around the province and beyond but lately it feels as though some of the faithful are losing their faith in the team. Winnipeg Jets: Segment 6 Update

UPDATE: Feb.24, 2015

The Winnipeg Jets 6th 10 game segment –

Eleven every ten

My theory is that if you can garner a minimum of eleven points in every ten game segment (on average) and win those two extra games you should be in the playoffs (92 points) or be in the hunt on the last weekend of the season.  The team would have ninety-two points.  In 2013-14 the Dallas Stars grabbed the last playoff spot with 91 points.

The original article explaining my theory can be seen here.
