With some unbelievable goaltending down the stretch by the much maligned Ondrej Pavelec, the Jets clinched their first playoff spot since their relocation to Winnipeg.  After reaching an all-time low after “the goal” in St. Louis it looked like he might be done but he rattled off an impressive streak and wrestled away the starting job from Michael Hutchinson. Winnipeg Jets 3/4 Mark Report Card: Def/Goal/PP/PK

Winnipeg Jets grades for the defencemen, goaltenders and special teams – 

The Winnipeg Jets blue-line and goaltending actually took a bit of a step backwards in this quarter of the season.  It seemed the healthier they got the worse they played.  Luckily by the end of the 3rd quarter, the defence corp settled down and they are playing much better.  This quarter saw a huge trade with the Buffalo Sabres and the Winnipeg Jets said good-bye to Zach Bogosian and hello to Tyler Myers , with Myers making a solid impact immediately.  Myers and Enstrom look to be a good match on the blue-line.

Winnipeg Jets grades for the forwards – 

The third quarter saw a major change in the Winnipeg Jets roster with G.M. Kevin Cheveldayoff pulling off a blockbuster trade with The Buffalo Sabres. Evander Kane (season ending surgery) and Zach Bogosian were replaced by Drew Stafford and Tyler Myers.   [Read more…]

Winnipeg Jets grades for the defencemen, goaltenders and special teams – 

The Winnipeg Jets blue-line was decimated by injuries in the second quarter of this season and somehow the replacements managed to keep it together.  I can’t remember ANY NHL team having their top two pairings injured at the same time. The fact that the Jets kept winning in spite of this is a testament to their system and overall commitment to team defence.
