Winnipeg Jets grades for the defencemen and goaltenders – 

At this time last season, the Winnipeg Jets defensive corp was well below league average in my opinion but Kevin Cheveldayoff added a couple of solid mid-range defencemen that have vastly improved the Winnipeg Jets back end.  This season this corp is far better moving the puck in transition but the defensive system seems to still struggle even with an overall better defensive corp.  The system is flawed at times and still allows too many high-danger chances.  The goaltending is still way better than average but the special teams are an embarrassment considering the personnel this team employs.    [Read more…]

Winnipeg Jets Mid-Term Report Card: Defence, Goal, And Special Teams

Winnipeg Jets grades for the defencemen, goalies, special teams and coaches – 

The “new look” Winnipeg Jets blueline had a pretty decent first half of the season.  The goaltending has been excellent and the Winnipeg Jets have a powerplay.  The penalty killing has improved statistically but they play a passive system that is hard to watch and it’s even harder on the players.  It really counts on a lot of sacrifice from the forwards who are expected to be human targets.  The Jets are also at the top of the league in faceoffs.  At the halfway point in the season, the Jets record is 23-11-7 and I think most Jets fans would take that. Winnipeg Jets Mid-Term Report Cards: Forwards

Winnipeg Jets grades for the forwards – 

The first half of the regular season sees the Winnipeg Jets sitting in second place in the Central Division, one point behind (with two games in hand) the St. Louis Blues.  The Jets have a record of 23-11-7 and are playing a pretty consistent, entertaining brand of hockey.  They have finally made Bell MTS Place a tough building for visiting teams to play in and so far they are dominating on home ice with a record of 14-3-1.  I’m pretty sure that most Winnipeg Jets fans think that it is about time! Winnipeg Jets Mid-Term Report Card: Defence, Goal, And Special Teams

Winnipeg Jets grades for the defencemen, goalies, special teams and coaches – 

The first half of the regular season saw the Winnipeg Jets play some absolutely terrific hockey mixed in with some of the most frustrating hockey you have every seen.  This team is the poster child for inconsistency. When you look up the word inconsistent in the dictionary there is a team picture of our beloved Winnipeg Jets.  You get the picture, it’s been quite the rollercoaster ride.  At the halfway point in the season, the Jets record is 19-19-3.  [Read more…]
