Random Thoughts On The Winnipeg Jets: Jan. 31

Odds and Ends, Thoughts and Questions, from this past week in hockey –

Just so there’s no confusion when I’m spewing my bias, I am a fan of the Winnipeg Jets, Arizona Coyotes, Manitoba Moose, Winnipeg Ice, and all Team Canada Hockey teams.

I am NOT a fan of Gary Bettman or as I call him, Count Chocula.  I am a big believer in the 7Ps. You’ve been warned.

1. Jets:  The Winnipeg Jets fanbase including myself were not in a very positive mood after Thursday night’s fiasco at home versus Vancouver and just when you’re ready to write them off they come up with a performance that makes no sense.  The good guys defeated St. Louis 4-1 on the road in one of the better games they’ve played in weeks.  Go figure.  The Jets record sits at a very underwhelming 18-16-7 and they have lots of work to do after the All-Star break to take a run at a wildcard spot.  The Jets are 5 points out of the last wildcard spot and worse yet they have to climb over 5 teams.  I’m not going to lie, it’s a tall order.       [Read more…]

Today’s thoughts are sponsored by the word ENOUGH!

1. Jets:  The Winnipeg Jets went winless on this road trip, bookending two losses with an overtime loss and a shootout loss.  It’s hard to be overly critical with the effort in most of the games but this team just lacks any type of killer instinct.  They have had multiple chances to extend leads but they let teams hang around and eventually lose.  The Jets record sits at 17-14-7 and they are 3 points out of the last wildcard position.    [Read more…]

1. Jets:  The Winnipeg Jets won their only game this past week, defeating Detroit 3-0 in a solid road win.   This win keeps them within striking distance of the final wildcard spot in the Western Conferfence.  This was a huge win with the Jets heading out on a four-game road trip next week with games against four very tough teams.  With games in Washington, Nashville, Boston, and Pittsburgh this could be a season defining road trip and I would think four points is a must.  Right now the Jets record sits at 17-12-5 and they are 3 points out of the last wildcard position.    [Read more…]

1. Jets:  The Winnipeg Jets finally hit the ice for real in Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon after not playing for 13 days and it showed at times in a sloppy, see-saw, 5-4 overtime win versus the Golden Knights.  The Jets record now sits at 15-11-5 and they are 3 points out of the last wildcard position.     [Read more…]

Winnipeg Jets First Quarter Grades: Forwards

Winnipeg Jets grades for the forwards:

As usual in any hockey season, any given NHL roster is going to have its surprises and its disappointments.  The Winnipeg Jets are no exception.  The Winnipeg Jets forward group in the first quarter of the season has been very inconsistent with the exception of Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois.  [Read more…]
