Winnipeg Jets grades for the defencemen, goalies, special teams and coaches – 

The “new look” Winnipeg Jets blueline had a pretty decent first half of the season.  The goaltending has been excellent and the Winnipeg Jets have a powerplay.  The penalty killing has improved statistically but they play a passive system that is hard to watch and it’s even harder on the players.  It really counts on a lot of sacrifice from the forwards who are expected to be human targets.  The Jets are also at the top of the league in faceoffs.  At the halfway point in the season, the Jets record is 23-11-7 and I think most Jets fans would take that. Winnipeg Jets: 2016-17 Segment 5 Update

The Winnipeg Jets 5th ten game segment –

How many points will it take for the Winnipeg Jets to secure a playoff berth?  

A minimum of eleven points each segment gets you to eighty-eight points plus there are games eighty-one and eighty-two to get a couple extra points.  This should put you in the eighty-eight to ninety-two point range and close to or in the playoffs.  

  • In 2013-14 the Dallas Starts needed 91 points to secure the last wildcard position.
  • In 2014-15 the Calgary Flames needed 97 points to secure the last wildcard position.
  • In 2015-16 the Minnesota Wild need 87 points to secure the last wildcard position.

The first half of the regular season saw the Winnipeg Jets play some absolutely terrific hockey mixed in with some of the most frustrating hockey you have every seen.  This team is the poster child for inconsistency. When you look up the word inconsistent in the dictionary there is a team picture of our beloved Winnipeg Jets.  You get the picture, it’s been quite the rollercoaster ride.  At the halfway point in the season, the Jets record is 19-19-3.  [Read more…]
